Review: Well, really wanted to like this. On paper improve. Writer / director Paul Thomas Anderson cast headed by Joaquin Phoenix, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams. What could go wrong? The script. If the movie does not start with a great script, you can not lose it turn better. And it works. Not back to the story. And no end. It provides payment for more than two hours. The actors give excellent performances and scenes are built well. Joaquin Phoenix May tragic moment. And then the movie just continues to persevere along. I have a good movie to generate slow. Im not good with a movie that is not, and it is not. It's about an alcoholic? No. It is a cult leader? No. Random times between an alcoholic and a cult leader, strung together with no direction and no point. You can extract any scenes from the film, and would have its own well. Pieced together, however, add up to a story. A story should be about something. You have to start somewhere and have to go somewhere. This story begins, and then goes nowhere. It is delicious if the resolution of a story is simply endlessly. This film, however, does not determine where to go. And therefore can not be lost simply go on forever. Never went anywhere to begin with. The actors are left to the audience Spluga everywhere for no discernible reason. Im Phillip Seymour Hoffman over, and have been for a while. In this paper, as a form of Figure L. Ron Hubbard, he overacts to the point of caricature. For my money, the best Seymour Hoffman Boogie Nights, Happiness, and The Talented Mr. Ripley. Joaquin Phoenix is ââprobably the most talented American actors working today, but physically contorted, repetitive, mentally tortured alcoholic, Freddie calm, never given the opportunity to be real or sympathetic, or even stagnant. He just like the rest of the movie went on. The actor, Joaquin Phoenix, has the chops to do something. See it in Reservation Road, fighter, Walk the Line, and the best of two lover. Two adventurous Phoenix draws a portrait of the man lame love life collapses beyond hope (in his eyes), but an accident of fate finds a way where to go in the living room. He is riveting. There is nothing you can not lose given the chance. But he did not get a chance here.Clearly this film is trying to comment on cultism. We know too much, however (Jonestown, Waco, Warren Jeffs), about cult to accept a part of the story. Clear that the main character is an alcoholic. But the film did not explore her distress or addiction, how even a bad shows like Celebrity Rehab do. I almost brought them closer and closer to the story to care during his first session with Phillip Seymour Hoffman, but not built and ultimately went nowhere. Like the rest of film. There some shocking scenes in this film. But no story is based. It's like watching a big-screen version of Americas most beautiful video - for more than two hours. They are independently compelling but ultimately irrelevant. And they will rise to a story about something that could end up arms. For me the real failure of this film is that there is no point to it. This is not an art film. It is a pointless film. And no I do not get. There's not anything to get. Better to spend your time watching auto accident, television, taken on board cams. At least practice expect much going in.
